| I N T R O D U C T I O N: It's strange to look back at what HotJobs.com, Ltd. has become since its very humble inception sometime in early 1996. In 1995 following the introduction of e-mail into RBL Agency (Richard Johnson and Ben Carroccio's recruitment agency), Richard realized that the Internet had the potential to be the greatest "thing" in his lifetime. Subsequently, he hired three Generation Xers to "do something on the Internet." Earle Ady, Chris Rouland and myself started during the Fall of 1995 to make our mark with company called "OTEC." Without much focus, we pitched various companies to build e-commerce systems (the term didn't even exist at the time), and finally landed a project building enabling technology for Columbia House's secure website. Chris "Max" Stach, a friend of Chris and Earle, was hired to help with the programming effort. We didn't have a whole lot to do back then, so we spent some time just fooling around...this is a prototype for an online ordering system for "Teriyaki Boy," which we used to LOVE! ![]() We also thought that creating some content sites might be the future. Here's a banner ad for a site that never got launched called "crud.com" ![]() Early in 1996, Richard expressed interest to create a job board like two other existing boards, Monster Board and Career Mosaic, because it paralleled an industry he already understood. And like RBL Agency, the board only dealt with technology positions, unlike the multiple job types that we support today. With only a concept, we now needed a name. | |
